I started wearing natural deodorant about two years ago. Since then, I’ve tried a variety of effective natural deodorants, and some not so good ones, too!
There was no big reason why I started wearing natural deodorant. I wanted to stop wearing anti-antiperspirant since sometimes it irritated my armpits. And sometimes I’d get hard lumps under my arms that I figured were because of antiperspirant. They would become really tender and sore. Since I mostly work from home, figured I could make the transition to an organic effective natural deodorant without offending anyone’s noses.
Before I fully made the switch, I did an armpit detox, which I realize is maybe an unscientific thing. But I did feel like the combo of the clay mask and apple cider vinegar really helped clear out B.O. smells for several days at a time. Sometimes I still do the armpit mask just to kind of refresh the armpits. Especially in the more humid summer months.
Here’s a link to the French Clay mask powder and the Apple Cider Vinegar bottle I use to make the armpit detox mask!
In any case, some of the natural deodorants I tried were an epic fail (cough: Tom’s Apricot stick, which actually made me stink MORE).
After a month or so, my body got used to not having antiperspirant. I still sweat, but the sweat doesn’t really smell bad. But I think finding a combination of personal hygiene (showering or washcloth) and wearing an effective natural deodorant is key. And some deodorants won’t work for everyone! So it might take some trial and error, but I hope to help you along the process.

Schmidt’s Aluminum Free Natural Deodorant has really been my “holy grail” natural deodorant. I find that Schmidt’s deodorant is the most effective in odor control. It also weirdly keeps me more dry than the others. Maybe it’s something in the formulation. It doesn’t stop sweating, but I don’t feel as sticky as fast as with some of the others.
Some people have mixed thoughts about it, because the formula is a little bit rough. I usually apply it after a hot shower and it softens up a bit with the warmth of my skin.
My personal favorite scent is the Bergamot and Lime stick which smells just like a summer margarita. I also really like the Rose + Vanilla and Lavender + Sage scents, which are equally effective natural deodorant scents. With a variety of year-round and seasonal scents, you’ll never get mored with their options!
Find all of their scents here:
Little Seeds Farms was founded by a couple who moved from NYC to Tennessee to dig into the good life. They started the company to create chemical-free skincare while using clean energy and ethical farming practices.
I recently ordered two of their organic natural cream deodorants to give them a try. I sampled the Grapefruit and Lemon deodorant and the Patchouli Rosemary scent.
Little Seed Farms natural deodorants do not contain baking soda, which can irritate some people’s skin. I’ve never had a problem with baking soda deodorants, but I’ve read several reviews from others who say that it makes their armpits break out in a rash!
You might think…cream deodorant? Isn’t that…weird? And it is weird at first. You have to come to peace with the idea that you will have to touch your deodorant. With your fingers!
Basically, you take a small bit of the deodorant and rub it into your armpits. Thankfully, all the ingredients are natural, so it’s no big deal. They also sell a “scooper” if you don’t want to put your fingers into the deodorant pot.
I found the Little Seed Farms cream deodorant to be an effective natural deodorant. It does not keep me as dry as the Schmidt’s, and maybe that’s because of the lack of baking soda. But it kept me stink-free, and I really loved trying a variety of their scents.
The third effective natural deodorant I’ve tried is Native Deodorant. One thing I really like about them is their variety of scents. I can’t want to try the Eucalyptus & Mint scent sometime soon!
Native deodorants are aluminum free, vegan, are free of parabens and sulfates, and contain probioticsĀ (although I am not really sure how that helps your pits?).
But I’ve tried the Coconut & Vanilla and the Cucumber & Mint scents, and found them both to be equally effective in preventing odor. Native deodorants also glide on really smoothly. These will probably be most similar to the application and feel of “regular” antiperspirants. In addition to the full size deodorants, you can also buy travel sizes at Target to try out first, or to keep in your travel kit or purse.
